Tips for Successful Negotiating & Surviving the Holidays

Posted

Hello Family and Friends!

We are in the midst of the holiday season. You may already be feeling like this…

I understand. This year, more then most years, I have gone through a lot of changes: my mother passed away, I have a new little nephew, moved to a new home and I began working with the amazing Kate Beeders, as my business coach. In short, the normal good and bad of life.

With all of these ups and downs, I have begun to look for practical ideas to get through the holidays. Luckily, Chris Voss, the author of one of my favorite blogs, Black Swan, says to preempt difficult situations with a little subconscious coaching. If you are walking into a Holiday Party with new co-workers, tell them how welcoming and gracious they have been to you to invoke the very same response. In-laws coming to dinner, but dinner isn’t going to be ready on time, announce, before they speak, how much you appreciate their patience and how helpful they are with your little ones (you might get a new babysitter). Maybe you want to get that contract signed before the end of the year? Let them know how much you love working with them, because they are so considerate of your bottom-line and getting the deal done in a timely manner. Boom! Contract signed, deal closed, house closing completed!

I am definitely bringing this skill into my Christmas dinner with my amazing family and would love to hear how this works for you. Read more from Chris Voss
